How We Teach Volleyball at Bounce & Grow Academy

At Bounce & Grow Volleyball Academy, our training method is designed specifically for children aged 5 to 12. We combine age-appropriate instruction, small group coaching and a balance of structure and fun to help young players thrive.

We go beyond teaching volleyball skills — our goal is to support each child’s growth in confidence, focus, coordination and teamwork. Every session is tailored to their developmental stage, with a clear step-by-step progression that starts with basic movement and ball control and evolves into real game understanding and team play.

Led by certified youth volleyball coaches, our sessions provide a safe and encouraging environment where children enjoy learning, feel supported and build skills that go far beyond the court.

Age-Based Volleyball Programs

Our age-based volleyball programs grow with your child—from playful movement at 5–6 to teamwork and strategy at 10–12—all in a safe, fun and structured environment.

Volleyball for Ages 5–6

Learning Through Fun and Play

Our volleyball program for ages 5–6 introduces young children to the sport through playful, age-appropriate activities in a fun and safe environment.

At this stage, we don’t focus on competition. Instead, we help your child build a strong foundation by

    • Developing coordination, balance, and basic motor skills
    • Introducing simple volleyball movements through fun games and activities
    • Encouraging teamwork, listening, and cooperation
    • Building confidence and helping kids develop a love for being active

We use soft volleyballs, smaller courts, and lower nets tailored to the needs and abilities of young children. They participate in simple, game-like activities that introduce basic volleyball skills like passing, turn-taking and teamwork.

Each session provides space for kids to express themselves, with ongoing encouragement and feedback to help them feel involved, supported and proud of their progress.

This program is the perfect introduction to volleyball, focusing on building confidence through movement, learning and joyful play.

Volleyball for Ages 7–9

Learning the Game with Energy and Confidence

Children between 7 and 9 start developing more structured volleyball skills in a fun and encouraging setting. The program helps young players build a strong foundation while staying active, confident and fully engaged.

Fundamentals are taught through creative, game-based activities that make each session enjoyable and motivating.

Feedback is regularly gathered to ensure every child feels seen, involved and proud of their progress throughout the learning process.

Your child will be introduced to key volleyball techniques, including

    • Passing (bumping)
    • Underhand serving
    • Footwork and movement

To make learning effective and age-appropriate, we use modified equipment

    • Lower nets, smaller courts, and lighter volleyballs help children build good habits and gain confidence with every touch.

Each session includes dynamic and engaging drills aimed to improve

    • Hand-eye coordination
    • Timing and reaction speed
    • Body control and balance

Alongside skill development, children will also receive simple, easy to understand explanations of

    • The basic rules of volleyball
    • Player positions and how to move on the court
    • The importance of teamwork and communication

Volleyball for Ages 10–12

Developing Skills, Game Sense, and Confidence

At this age, children are ready for more structured instruction, regular practice, and small-team competition, all in a positive and supportive environment.

For this age group, we introduce to a more complete version of the game. They will:

    • Passing (bump) with accuracy and control
    • Underhand and overhand serving
    • Setting using proper footwork and hand technique
    • Basic attacking (spiking) techniques
    • Practice court movement and positioning
    • Understand the 3-touch system: pass → set → attack
    • Learn to work as a team, rotate correctly, and communicate during play

We use age-appropriate equipment, such as lighter balls and adapted courts, to encourage proper technique and reduce frustration. Sessions include exercises and mini-matches that develop decision-making, teamwork and game understanding.

With a focus on positive coaching, kids learn from mistakes, communicate, and support each other in a safe and respectful environment.

By the end, they will have improved coordination, confidence and volleyball skills, whether preparing for school teams or simply enjoying the sport.
